June at Hillier Creek Winery
Our team is welcoming in the month of June with open arms (and full shelves)! We’ve been busy preparing for the amazing upcoming patio season in the county and can’t wait to share everything we’ve been up to – it’s never a dull moment at Hillier Creek Winery!
One of the most exciting things we’ve been preparing is a BRAND NEW WINE, which we’ll be launching in our online store starting this week! Before we get to the yummy details though, here’s what’s happening at the Vineyard!
Here’s What’s Happening At Hillier Creek Vineyard!
Remember last month when we talked about the trellis wires? Well, we’re going to talk about them again because our awesome crew has been committed to ensuring the proper growth and maintenance of our vines ALL MONTH LONG!
Why is it important that we tie our vines to trellis wires?
The process of tying our vines to their trellis wires is simple, yet crucial to the healthy growth and easy maintenance of our vineyard throughout the growing season. By tying the vines to the trellis wires, we are ensuring that the plant grows straight up, is easy to manage within the row and is given the space it needs to be fruitful.
How do we manage our vines throughout the summer?
Now that all of our vines are properly tied to their trellis wires, we can begin the process of pruning!
Did you know the canopy (vine leaves) become very thick as the season progresses, preventing proper sunlight and air circulation to reach the plant? This can prohibit the growth of grapes and encourage fungus growth on the leaves – NOT GOOD.
By pruning back the leaves, we can dramatically reduce the amount of fungicide spray that has to be used on our plants as the summer progresses AND encourage healthy growth of our grapes!
Weed management is also now in full force at the vineyard – thank you Hillier Creek crew for staying on top of everything!
Weeding is such a necessary part of the growing process because it prevents nutrients found in the soil from being stolen. It also helps keep our vines healthy and free from weed-causing diseases.
Because of our hard-working crew at Hillier Creek Winery, we are foreshadowing a healthy and luscious 2021 wine season!
A Note About Our Winery Reopening
Our tasting room and patio are not currently open until after June 2nd – specific date to-be-determined as per government reopening guidelines. Until then however, we are still accepting and fulfilling online orders and curbside pickups!
We know you’re excited to get back into patio season this summer and you can believe us when we say that we match your enthusiasm! Don’t you worry, we’re doing everything we can on our end to prepare for our winery reopening with STYLE! We’re already working hard to get our pizza oven back in service and our patio set up for guests, so we’ll see you soon!
How To Pre-Book Our Winery For Your Next Event
Even though we are currently closed to the public, we are still actively pre-booking events for the 2021 and 2022 season – as per reopening guidelines. If you, or someone you know, is looking for a beautiful, scenic venue for their next covid-friendly event, we would love to speak with them!
Saving The Best For Last – OUR JUNE WINE PICK!
Now that we are entering into our favourite season, it’s time to celebrate!
The early signs of summer in June have inspired one of our favourite wines – the Hillier Creek Estates Sparkling Amber – made from Riesling grape!
This light tasting wine surprises you with an incredible lemon zest and hint of green apples. Perfect for that backyard patio drink!
STORY TIME! Did you know that our Amber wine was named after the winery owner’s wife, Amber? This particular wine is both elegant and refreshing – a perfect match!
NEW WINE ALERT
Our newest wine, Summer Breeze, is being added to our online store THIS WEEK! We’ve had quite a few calls inquiring it’s availability and we promise it’s coming to you soon. If you’ve already added your name to our first-to-know list, you’ll be hearing from us soon!
If you haven’t heard about our newest wine, let us introduce you!
Summer Breeze is a low alcohol, 6.5% Chardonnay. It has lovely sweet notes and a light effervescence – giving you that perfect summer breeze feeling!
Hillier Creek Winery and Estates Welcomes You To Visit Us Online!
Besides that, we also have an upcoming planting of approximately 2,000 Baco Noir plants happening early this month! Like we said, never a dull moment at Hillier Creek Winery!
For now though, Gamay and Vidal (our well known, and quite photogenic puppies) are eager to get some attention! Till next time!
